Kurt A. Oster, MS, SPHR
Kurt A. Oster has over 20 years of
veterinary practice management experience. He currently consults on practice
operations, human resources management, strategic planning, demographics and
information technology. Prior to consulting, Kurt was a hospital administrator
for an AAHA-certified, 16-doctor veterinary practice, with a general practice,
a 24-hour emergency/critical care practice, a surgical and a medical referral
practice. Kurt spent nearly a decade as an educator for a national veterinary
practice management software company where he trained the staffs of over 325
veterinary practices in all areas of practice management. Outside of veterinary
medicine, Kurt worked for 2 years as a human resources manager for a Fortune 15
corporation.
Kurt
is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), which is the
highest level of certification offered by the Society for Human Resource
Management. Kurt also holds a Certificate in Veterinary Practice Administration
from the Veterinary Management Institute at Purdue University.
He has also attended the Leadership and Management training program at the
Disney Institute.
Kurt
has authored 18 book chapters and has been published in AAHA Trends Magazine, Veterinary
Practice News, DVM Newsmagazine and DVM Training Room. Kurt lectures at a
variety of local, state, and national veterinary meetings, and served as the
finance instructor for the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA)
Veterinary Management Development Schools (VMDS) from 2001 to 2004. Kurt also
serves as a practice management Board Moderator for the Veterinary Support
Personnel Network (www.VSPN.org).
Kurt
belongs to several professional groups, including the Association of Veterinary
Practice Management Consultants & Advisors, where he serves as Chairperson
of the Human Resources Management Special Interest Group. Kurt is also a member
of the Society for Human Resources Management and the American Animal Hospital
Association.
Kurt
lives on a horse farm in northeastern Connecticut
with his wife Holly, 15 horses and 3 rescued Great Danes. He volunteers as a
Firefighter, Medical Response Technician and serves on the Board of Fire
Commissioners.
